finding the roots of quadratic functions in vertex form

Hey guys!. Ever since I have started finding the roots of quadratic functions in vertex form at college I never seem to be able to understand it well. I am well versed at all the other sections, but this particular topic seems to be my weakness. Can some one help me in understanding it well?
